October 15, 2009 --
The Fond du Lac Evening Lions Club along with the Wisconsin
Lions Foundation and the Wisconsin Diabetes Prevention and Control Program is
conducting a Healthy Halloween Contest. The purpose is to gather ideas that
will create an environment for all people to have a healthy Halloween. It is
also intended to increase awareness of diabetes risks, symptoms, complications
and preventions in Wisconsin communities, with an emphasis on youth.
Participants are encouraged to create an
original idea that will encourage people to have a Healthy Halloween instead of
collecting bags of sweets which can be considered unhealthy if consumed in
excess.
Cash prizes from $50 to $500 will be awarded to
individual entries and to organized groups based upon judging criteria. Entries
will be judged on creativity and originality, addressing health education,
diabetes prevention, potential ease for widespread use and safety.
Entry forms must be postmarked by Oct. 31 and
are located at Pick ‘n Save, Festival Foods and Piggly Wiggly stores and also
on the Wisconsin Lions Foundation website – wlf.info under Projects - Community
Diabetes Education Project – 8x11 poster or at fonddulaclions.org.
