of our members volunteer their time, car and gas to transport eye
tissue to our Wisconsin Lions
Eye Bank in Madison.
After the eyes are processed, the corneas are then driven to clinics and
hospitals in the Fox River Valley and beyond to doctors who transplant
them into patients. We are part of a state-wide transport team that
brings donated eyes to the Eye Bank in Madison. Fond du Lac is a hub
with eyes coming from east central Wisconsin. Our members take them to
Beaver Dam where another Lion finishes the last leg of the journey.
Corneas are then brought to Fond du Lac where our members transport them
to Berlin, Sheboygan, Appleton, Neenah and Two Rivers.
The highest honor that the Eye Bank can bestow a Lion or
Lioness is the Knight of Sight Fellowship, which is a $1,000 donation,
paid for by the member's club, to the fund that operates the eye bank.
Nine Fond du Lac Evening Lions have been recognized as
Knight of Sight Fellows: Wayne Bargenquast, Ed Barnes, Frank Bartzen,
Betty Clausen, Thomas Clausen, Elaine Colton, Gary Colton, Orv Doede and Erv Karls.
